Dr. Amit Kumar completed his General Surgery residency at the esteemed University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. He then advanced his training by undertaking a Vascular Surgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, a globally renowned cardiovascular center consistently ranked among the best in the United States. He holds certification from the American Board of Surgery and is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, USA.
Dr. Kumar specializes in both endovascular and open surgical interventions, focusing on conditions such as diabetic foot disease, carotid artery disease, and aortic pathologies, including dissections and aneurysms of the thoracic and abdominal aorta. He is also highly experienced in treating venous disorders and providing wound care. Notably, he has extensive expertise in endovascular management of below-knee occlusive disease, particularly for diabetic patients.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kumar has been at the forefront of vascular surgery advancements in the Middle East. Over the past four years, he has performed more than 1,000 vascular and endovascular procedures, achieving several regional firsts. His accomplishments include performing the first successful atherectomy in the Middle East and pioneering the use of drug-eluting peripheral stents in the region.
His research contributions span both basic science and clinical applications. He recently led the first multicenter vascular study in the Middle East, known as The ABC in PVD Study. Previously, he secured a research grant for robotic surgery, which he pursued at East Carolina University in North Carolina, USA.
In addition to his clinical and research pursuits, Dr. Kumar is deeply committed to medical education. As a member of the Residents and Associates Society of the American College of Surgeons, he has actively contributed to the training and mentorship of surgical residents. His dedication earned him the prestigious Resident’s Teaching Award during his tenure at the University of Rochester.
Administratively, Dr. Kumar has played a significant role in healthcare policy and system implementation. He has been an invited participant in various committees for Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA) and the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD). Additionally, he led the surgical team responsible for implementing electronic order entry (Cerner) at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC).
Previously serving as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University in New York, Dr. Kumar now leads the largest vascular surgery practice across the MENA and Africa regions, bringing world-class expertise to patients in need.
